What is Field Theory?
Field Theory is a nutritionally complete daily meal made entirely from whole foods. To make it simple and convenient to prepare, and to eliminate those pesky excuses, we offer it as a ready-to-mix powder. Mix with water, give it a shake, voila.
Why do you formulate only from whole foods?
The health benefits documented in the Mediterranean, DASH, and MIND dietary patterns come from food, not from isolated nutrients. Nutrients in whole foods are embedded in a physical and chemical matrix of fiber, cell walls, and fatty acids that modulates absorption and biological effect. A vitamin in food behaves differently than the same vitamin in a tablet.
Most nutrition shakes start with a synthetic vitamin premix and work backward to meet label targets. Field Theory starts with the dietary patterns that research shows work, selects the whole foods that deliver those nutrients, and verifies every batch. The result is 27 recognizable ingredients. Nothing synthetic or artificial.
What are the benefits of Field Theory?
One daily meal makes it easy to get whole food nutrients in amounts that support all six of the biological systems that carry healthspan: muscular and metabolic, brain and cognitive, cardiovascular and circulatory, digestive and microbiome, immune and cellular defense, and skeletal and structural.
The Benefits page shows what each system gets, in what amount, from which named food.
What makes Field Theory different from other nutrition products?
Field Theory is whole food and a nutritionally complete meal, not a dietary supplement. Key nutrients are present in amounts large enough to matter, not trace amounts. We do not use synthetic or artificial ingredients, or off-the-shelf premixes. Field Theory is crafted to support the biology of healthspan.
We also tell you how much. Most labels name antioxidants or omega-3s without an amount attached. Field Theory states 1,005mg of polyphenols, 1,650mg of omega-3 ALA, and 147mcg of carotenoids per serving.
How does it taste?
Subtly sweet, with hints of vanilla and nut. Light and refreshing. Smooth, not chalky or gritty. The kind of meal you look forward to.
Who is behind Field Theory?
Kevin Appelbaum founded the company with a team of clinicians, food scientists, and product developers who have spent decades focused on improving health through better nutrition.
Fun fact: Kevin's last company developed new treatments for diet- and age-related diseases using whole food nutrition and technology, and pioneered the first FDA-authorized treatment for type 2 diabetes that was not a drug. He is now focused on using preventive nutrition to support good health.
Is Field Theory a dietary supplement?
No. Supplements can help address nutrient deficiencies. Field Theory is a nutritionally complete meal designed to prevent deficiencies in the first place.
Usage
How do I make a Field Theory meal?
As a meal, mix 2 scoops with 12 to 16 oz of cold water, then shake or blend. For a snack, mix one scoop with 8 oz of water.
Do I need to drink Field Theory every day?
With rare exceptions, consistency is what makes nutrition work over the long term. With consistent use, many report steadier late-morning energy and fewer cravings. Protein intake at the start of the day becomes consistent, fiber increases meaningfully, and polyphenol intake reaches levels rarely seen in American diets.
What does Field Theory replace?
Most supplements, lower-quality nutrition shakes, and overly processed convenience foods.
Most nutrition shakes are built from a synthetic vitamin premix and a sweetened protein base. Trace amounts of whole foods get added to support packaging claims using words like superfoods, greens, omegas, and antioxidants. Or the impressive-sounding "90+ superfoods," implying that more is better. In most cases those ingredients are pixie dust: used in amounts too small to do anything.
Will Field Theory keep me full?
Yes. The combination of 26g of protein and 11g of fiber in each serving slows digestion and helps you feel full longer.

You can find a link to Nutrition Facts on the Shop page, below the Add-to-Cart button. For what each nutrient does and which food it comes from, see the Benefits page.
Are all of the ingredients organic?
Not yet. Currently 84% of our ingredients are USDA-certified organic by weight. All ingredients are non-GMO.
What are polyphenols, and why do they matter?
Polyphenols are a type of phytonutrient occurring naturally in colorful fruits, vegetables, and herbs that help the body manage oxidative stress and inflammation. They support brain health, circulation, and cellular resilience across multiple systems. Field Theory delivers 1,005mg per serving.
Quick factMost adults consume 50 to 70% less polyphenols than the levels associated with reduced risk of cognitive decline, inflammation, and chronic disease.
What are omega-3 fatty acids, and why do they matter?
Omega-3 fatty acids support brain, heart, and joint health. They support cognitive function, help regulate inflammation, and support long-term cardiovascular health. Field Theory delivers 1,650mg of ALA omega-3 from flax and chia seeds.
Quick factMore than 90% of U.S. adults fall short on omega-3 intake, despite research linking adequate levels to a 30 to 40% lower risk of cognitive and cardiovascular issues.
Which vitamins and minerals matter most?
B vitamins, vitamins C, D, E, and K, magnesium, iodine, zinc, and selenium power enzyme systems, antioxidant defenses, and structural maintenance. Field Theory provides 25 vitamins and minerals, 23 of them at 20% Daily Value or higher, all from whole food sources.
What does complete protein mean, and why does it matter?
A complete protein contains all nine essential amino acids the body cannot make on its own, which makes it central to maintaining muscle, metabolism, and tissue repair. Field Theory provides 26g of complete protein from pea, brown rice, and pumpkin seed.
Quick tipAfter age 40, adults can lose 1 to 2% of muscle mass per year, yet nearly half fall short on daily protein needs and 80% do not get enough resistance exercise to protect strength and function. Protein alone is not enough. Muscle needs both nutrition and use.
Why is fiber important?
Fiber helps maintain healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels, supports weight management, and nourishes the gut microbiome, which is linked to immune and inflammatory regulation. Field Theory provides 11g from six diverse whole food sources.
Quick factAdults should get 25 to 38 grams of fiber per day, but fewer than 1 in 10 Americans meet that target.
Does Field Theory contain caffeine?
Yes, 34mg per serving, occurring naturally in the organic matcha. That is roughly a third of a cup of coffee, and it arrives with the L-theanine that matcha also carries.

Eighty percent are grown in the USA, and the remainder come from Indonesia, Africa, Peru, Japan, Canada, Austria, Australia, India, and Portugal.
Why is there a Prop 65 sticker on my package?
California's Prop 65 requires a warning label if a product may expose consumers to any of more than 900 substances, many of which occur naturally in plant-based ingredients. Every batch of Field Theory is tested to ensure heavy metals remain well below FDA safety limits.
What testing do you do to ensure safety?
Every ingredient and every final batch is tested for identity, quality, and purity, including microbial contaminants and heavy metals. A third-party lab tests each production batch in accordance with FDA guidelines to verify that actual nutrient amounts match label claims. You can view the most recent Certificate of Analysis.
