What is the Field Theory shake?

The Field Theory shake is a nutritionally complete daily meal built upon the science of healthy aging and made entirely from whole foods. To make it simple and convenient to prepare (and eliminate those pesky excuses), we offer it as a ready-to-mix powder. Mix with water, give it a shake, voila.

Why do you formulate specifically for midlife adults?

Biological aging begins to accelerate in midlife. For people motivated to take charge and have more control over how they age, improving diet quality is the first and most important step.

Quick Fact: Stanford scientists have found that aging accelerates in waves around ages 44 and 60.

What are the benefits of using Field Theory?

A daily Field Theory shake makes it easy to get whole-food nutrients like fiber, protein, polyphenols, and omega-3s in amounts that preserve muscle, support metabolic and cardiovascular health, reduce inflammation, and maintain gut integrity.

What makes Field Theory different from other nutrition products?

Here are a few of the ways:

• Field Theory is a food, not a supplement
• All nutrients are naturally occurring in our whole food ingredients; we do not use any synthetic (lab-made) or artificial ingredients
• We are crafted to support the biology of aging in midlife adults; we are not an all in one for everybody and everything shake
• We tell you exactly how much of key healthy-aging compounds like polyphenols, carotenoids, and omega-3s are in each serving

How does it taste?

A Field Theory shake is slightly sweet, with hints of vanilla and nut.

Who's behind Field Theory?

Our company was founded by Kevin Appelbaum, and a team of clinicians, food scientists, and product developers who've spent decades focused on improving health through better nutrition.

Fun Fact: Kevin's last company developed new treatments for diet- and age-related diseases using whole food nutrition and technology, including the first FDA-approved treatment for type 2 diabetes that wasn't a drug. Now, he's focused on using preventive nutrition to support healthier aging.

Is Field Theory a dietary supplement?

No. While supplements can help address nutrient deficiencies, Field Theory is a nutritionally complete meal designed to prevent deficiencies in the first place.

Usage

How do I make a Field Theory shake?

Easy. As a meal, mix 2 scoops with 16-18 oz of cold water and shake or blend. We suggest doing this without ice, and then adding a few cubes when thoroughly mixed. For a quick and healthy snack, mix 1 scoop with 8 oz of water.

Do I need to drink Field Theory every day?

With rare exceptions, consistency is the most effective approach for optimal nutrient absorption and long-term health. With consistent use, many report steadier late-morning energy and fewer cravings. Protein intake to start the day becomes consistent, fiber increases by about one-third, and polyphenol intake reaches levels rarely seen in American diets.

What products does Field Theory replace?

Field Theory replaces most supplements, lower quality protein and nutrition shakes, and overly processed convenience foods.

Did you know? Most nutrition shakes are made from synthetic (lab-made) vitamin premixes and a sweetened protein base. Trace amounts of whole foods may be added to support packaging claims using words like "whole foods, superfoods, greens, omegas, antioxidants..." and so on. Or the very impressive sounding "80+ ingredients" implying that more is better. But in most cases these whole food ingredients are a bit like pixie dust, and in such small amounts, they offer little to no benefit.

Will a Field Theory shake keep me full?

Yes. The combination of 26g of protein and 11g of fiber in each serving slows digestion and helps you feel full longer.

What are polyphenols and why do they matter?

Polyphenols are a type of phytonutrient naturally occurring in colorful fruits, vegetables, and herbs that help the body manage oxidative stress and inflammation. As we get older, they play a key role in supporting brain health, circulation, and cellular resilience across multiple systems.

Quick Fact:  Older adults often consume 50–70% less polyphenols than levels associated with reduced risk of cognitive decline, inflammation, and chronic disease.

What are omega 3 fatty acids and why do they matter?

Omega-3 fatty acids support brain, heart, and joint health. In midlife, they contribute to cognitive function, help regulate inflammation, and support long-term cardiovascular wellness.

Quick Fact: More than 90% of U.S. adults fall short on omega-3 intake, despite research linking adequate levels to 30–40% lower risk of age-related cognitive and cardiovascular issues.

Which vitamins & minerals are most important for healthy aging?

Vitamins & minerals ("micronutrients") like B vitamins, vitamins C, D, E, K, magnesium, iodine, zinc, and selenium power enzyme systems, antioxidant defenses, and structural maintenance.

What does complete protein mean and why does it matter?

A complete protein contains all nine essential amino acids that the body can’t make on its own, making it vital for maintaining muscle, metabolism, and tissue repair. In midlife, getting enough high-quality protein becomes increasingly important to prevent age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia), support metabolic health, and maintain physical function.

Quick Tip: After age 40, adults can lose up to 1–2% of muscle mass per year—yet nearly half fall short on daily protein needs, and 80% don’t get enough resistance exercise to protect strength and function. Protein alone isn’t enough—muscle needs both nutrition and use to stay strong.

Why is fiber important?

Fiber helps maintain healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels, supports weight management, and nourishes the gut microbiome linked to immune and inflammatory regulation.

Quick Fact: Adults should get 25–38 grams of fiber per day, but fewer than 1 in 10 Americans meet that target—and intake tends to decline with age.

Every batch of Field Theory is tested to ensure heavy metals stay well below safety limits set by the FDA.

Every ingredient and every final batch is tested for identity, quality, and purity, including microbial contaminants and heavy metals. In fact, you can view the most recent Certificates of Analysis here.
